#225 Camera

Jan 2nd , Tokyo Imperial Palace

The inner grounds of the palace are generally not open to the public. Only on January 2 (New Year’s Greeting) and December 23 (Emperor’s Birthday), visitors are able to enter the inner palace grounds and see the members of the Imperial Family, who make several public appearances on a balcony. We shuffled in, masses of people quiet and respectful. We wondered how people would react when the Imperial family appeared. I expected a revered silence and people to bow in unison. Instead, a mass of flag waing patriotic fervour and a cacophony of camera clicking.

Today’s inspiration comes courtesy of Jennifer Nichole Wells and her One Word Photo Challenge
